We shared the points tonight at Cape Town Stadium with Ajax cape Town in our first ABSA Premiership game of the 2017/18 season.
What started out slowly in the first half, with both teams feeling each other out took a turn to our advantage as we snuck a goal in the 23rd minute after Lamola put presure on Petersen as he tried clearing the ball. The clear was not great and came off Lamola, rolling on to the back of the net for the opening goal of the game.
From there it was a fight that we held the upper hand in for the remainder of the half. We put pressure on the home side and defended well. Just not being able to convert our chances meant that we went into the half with just a 1 goal lead.
The second half saw the home side coming from the change rooms intending to win. This saw them get their equaliser off the boot of Coetzee in the 49th minute and from then enjoy a slight domaination on the game as we defended from deep.
Gumede was put under pressure again a number of times in the half, and did well under the continual pressure from the Urban Warriors.
In the dying minutes of additional time, Lamola was just not able to get a clear shot on a cross from Jooste, which could have given us the game.
A tough night but one that has secured us a point for the season.
We return to Durban and prepare for our midweek game against Bloemfontein Celtic on Wednesday. Its a 19h30 kick off and would like to get as much home side support in Princess Magogo as possible.
