Abafana Bes’thende were unchanged from the win over Maritzburg, while the Chilli Boys recalled Patrick Mokhele to link up with Bienvenu Eva Nga upfront following their defeat against Marumo Gallants.
Arrows had a perfect start as Mmodi gave them the lead within the first minute after he intercepted a bad back pass, got past a couple of challenges and fired a strike into goal.
Lehlohonolo Seema’s charges continued to pressurise Chippa but the visitors were also fired up and eventually levelled matters just before the half-time break courtesy of strike by Siphesihle Mkhize.
Arrows had a big chance to restore their lead on the stroke of half-time after Andile Fikizolo went through on goal but goalkeeper Lloyd Kazapua spread himself and made a crucial save.
The sides refreshed their attacks at halftime, as Chippa withdrew Eva Nga and brought on Thokozani Sekotlong while Michael Gumede replaced Fikizolo for Arrows.
Seema’s men were on the front foot early in the second stanza but only came close to going ahead 24 minutes before time after a cross by Sbonelo Cele found Pule Mmodi unmarked in the box but he dragged his shot wide.
With the game seemingly headed for a draw, Sandile Mthethwa snatched the winner in the last minute with a finish at the back post to send Kurt Lentjies’ troops up to 13th on the log, three points clear of the relegation zone.
