Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter handed a start to Bruce Bvuma in place of the injured Brandon Petersen while Samir Nurkovic was also recalled in the attack.
Chiefs made the worst possible start as a defensive error from Erick Mathoho gifted Arrows striker Knox Mutizwa the ball and he lobbed Bruce Bvuma from distance for his fifth goal of the campaign.
Pule Mmodi then had a glorious chance to double Arrows’ lead. Mutizwa played Mmodi through with a wonderful through ball but he pulled his shot wide with only Bvuma to beat.
While Chiefs were all over the place at the back, Mutizwa let the ball go past Mmodi when he was better positioned to have an attempt at goal and the opportunity went begging.
The Soweto giants then won a free-kick on the edge of the box when Phathutshedzo Nange was fouled Nqobeko Siphelele Dlamini. Keagan Dolly stepped up and his good attempt went just wide.
Chiefs’ first shot of target came in the 39th minute and it almost resulted in a goal as Nange’s fine effort forced Nkosingiphile Gumede into an impressive reflex save.
Chances were few and far between in the second period with the game largely being contested in midfield.
It took until the 57th minute for Chiefs to come alive and it was through their captain Bernard Parker when his powerful long-range effort was held onto well by Gumede.
Parker came close just a few minutes later when he rose highest to meet Reeve Frosler’s corner but it was straight at Gumede.
Amakhosi appeared to now be the team taking the game by the scruff of the neck but it was almost the visitors who doubled the lead as Dlamini clipped the bar.
In the end, Arrows showed brilliant grit and determination, especially with their defensive work, to claim their sixth victory of the season.
