Arrows had the first chance of the match. Knox Mutizwa was played through on goal and squared for Pule Mmodi but Keagan Phillips slid in to make a fantastic goal-saving interception for SuperSport.
Arrows had started the brighter but SuperSport were awarded a penalty in the 11th minute. Iqraam Rayners showed searing pace as he surged into into the box before being upended by Thabani Zuke and Jamie Webber sent Nkosingiphile Gumede the wrong way to give Matsatsantsa the lead.
Thamsanqa Gabuza had a wonderful opportunity to double the advantage three minutes later when Gumede miscued his attempted clearance straight to Gabuza, who couldn’t finish.
Abafana Bes’thende hit back with a penalty of their own in the 20th minute. Sifiso Ngobeni was adjudged to have fouled Mmodi in the box and Nduduzo Sibiya put the ball in the top corner to level the scores.
It was a frenetic first-half as Sealelo Rasebotja restored SuperSport’s lead five minutes later. Rayners did excellent work down the left and squared a low cross to the back post where Rasebotja sidefooted home.
Gumede was not having a good game in the Arrows’ goal. The Arrows keeper spilled a weak shot straight to Gabuza, who could only fire into the side netting.
SuperSport continued their dominance of the game after half-time but Kaitano Tembo’s side were dealt a hammer blow when they went down to ten men in the 56th minute after Gabuza was red-carded for an off-the-ball incident with Nkosinathi Sibisi.
Things went from bad to worse for SuperSport as they were reduced to nine men seven minutes later when in a moment of madness Rayners stamped on Khetukuthula Ndlovu and was rightly sent off.
Arrows turned it around with two quickfire goals in the 77th and 78th minutes. The first came after a cross came into the area and Boy Gumede got a touch to it before it fell to Knox Mutizwa, who tucked home.
The turnaround was complete when Mmodi delivered a cross from the left and Velemseni Ndwandwe beat Keagan Johannes in the air, headed down into the ground and it bounced over Williams’ dive and into the net.
