Lamontville Golden Arrows, represented by Head Coach Steve Komphela, Assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi and Senior player Musa Bilankulu, took part in the launch of the new Durban Promenade today.
The launch took place as a Walk/Run along the whole promenade, starting at Blue Lagoon and finishing at the newly built extension of the promenade past uShaka.
The walk participants were entertained at the start with traditional Zulu dancers and other entertainment before the start of the walk at 7am.
At the start of the new extension, the Mayor, Cllr Mxolisi Kaunda, cut the ribbon to the extension before the participants were allowed to walk along the newly constructed extension while being entertained along the way.
Mayor Kaunda then welcomed and addressed the crowd before being handed signed jerseys from Durban’s four major sports teams, Lamontville Golden Arrows, The Sharks, The Dolphins and AmaZulu FC.
Head coach Steve Komphela was the one who handed the jersey over to the mayor and had a few words to say
“Education and Sports are the same, they carry the same values. Respect dignity, co-existence, anything that you can think of is embedded in sports and so is education”
After being addressed by the MEC as well as a vote of thanks from ECOD Chairperson, Cllr Sipho Kaunda, the walk participants were further entertained while enjoying refreshments.
An entertaining morning for all along our beautiful cities beach-line. Congratulations to the City on the improvement done for the benefit of all who visit Durban.
