We shared the spoils at Princess Magogo Stadium today with the Urban Warriors in a game that could have gone either way in the end.
There was a considerable wind in Durban, and both sides used it to their advantage to get up into the opposing half to create scoring opportunities. We had the wind advantage in the first half and this assisted us in taking the ball up to create chances to score. This paid off for us in the 13th minute as Mngwengwe managed to get place a rebound ball into the back of the net and take the lead for the side.
We were not able to find the mark again even after making advantage of the wind. We took the lead into the break and brought the experience of Dikgacoi on for the second 45 to try and bring some stability into what we knew would be a tough half, after losing Mathiane to an injury.
Ajax took full advantage of the wind from the whistle and used it to push the ball far upfield into the last 3rd. Nxumalo was well positioned most of the game for the Urban Warriors, but he was just unable to get a clear shot on. The perseverance of the visitors payed off from a corner though, and a good in curler found Nxumalo at the far post. He headed the ball in for the equaliser and the game was on from both sides.
Ajax threw a lot of attacking play at us, and the defence held well. Gumede had a fantastic day in the goal and made some telling saves. On the counter we had some promising shots, but they were either wide or over the bar.
It will be a week of hard preparation for the side as we head into the quarter final stage of the Nedbank Cup. The game will be played at Princess Magogo Stadium and we would love our local support base to get behind the team.
