GOLDEN ARROWS 2

0 FREE STATE STARS

Competition: PSL
Date: Saturday, 07 April 2012
Venue: Princess Magogo Stadium
Kick-off: 15:00pm

Lamontville Golden Arrows have secured an excellent 2-0 victory over in-form Free State Stars in their Absa Premiership clash at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Goals in either half from Dillon Sheppard and Thamsanqa Gabuza were good enough for the win in a game in which Abafana Bes’thende always looked in complete control.

The win moves Golden Arrows up to 10th in the Absa Premiership, though they have played a game more than the teams below them, and stretches their unbeaten League run to five games.

Siyabonga Nkosi had the first real opening the game having been sent clear by Collins Mbesuma, but his low shot was well-saved by Kennedy Mweene in the visitors’ goal.

When the goal did come four minutes before the break, it was of real quality. Sheppard turned the defender on the left, before applying an excellent curling effort into the net.

Gabuza, just on as a substitute for Mbesuma, netted the second when he finished from close-range, a real poacher’s goal and his ninth of the season.

Coach Muhsin Ertugral will be delighted with a third-straight clean-sheet, with the side having also kept Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns scoreless in their previous two games.

The only negative on a fine afternoon for the home side were the yellow cards handed out to Nkosi and Mkeseli Mvalo which means they must sit out a one-match ban for reaching three yellow cards this season.

They will miss the club’s next game, a Durban Derby against AmaZulu at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Wednesday, April 18.
