Lamontville Golden Arrows have beaten Maritzburg United in an exciting KZN Derby at Princess Magogo Stadium tonight.

Maritzburg came out tonight intent to return to the Capital with 3 points, this was clear as they attacked into our last 3rd from both half in tonights game. The first half saw them dominating both play and possession, pushing up and seeking a break through for their efforts. We stood well in defence and used our ball well to build up from the back. This created a play that led to us being awarded a corner, we took it, played well to the far post and Mutizwa was there to header it in and grab a lead for us in the 43rd minute.

A well fought second half pursued, with Maritzburg bringing on Saal, Mokate and Lentjies in an attempt to find and equaliser. Coach Larsens game plan stood strong though, and the players were able to execute it well, denying Maritzburg an opportunity to score.

In a game that was not without its periods of intense physical play and determination from both sides, we managed to hold off a strong Maritzburg attack and keep a first half goal from Knox Mutizwa to win this spectacular Derby game.
