Lamontville Golden Arrows have lost out to Santos in a seven-goal Absa Premiership thriller that finished 4-3 to the Cape Town side at the Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday night.

Collins Mbesuma, Mxolisi Machupu and Philani Shange were on target for Abafana Bes’thende, while the Santos goals came via Salmaan King, Erwin Isaacs (two) and Tyren Arsendse.

Golden Arrows were ahead inside six minutes through top-scorer Mbesuma, who unleashed a powerful drive from the edge of the area that left the keeper with no chance for his 10th of the season..

And Santos were stunned two minutes later when the home side made it 2-0. This time Mbesuma was the architect, setting up Machupu to finish.

Abafana Bes’thende had plenty of possession after that but failed to create a clear-cut chance and the game changed just past the half-hour mark.

King had a simple tap-in on 32 minutes after Thulasizwe Khuzwayo in the home goal could only parry Thabiso Ntloana’s shot.

And the visitors were level seven minutes later when Isaacs netted a beauty from 25-yards that this time left Khuzwayo with no chance.

But the home side were ahead again two minutes after the break when Shange tapped home after Machupu’s shot was parried into his path by Santos goalkeeper Ryan Harrison.

Remarkably, Santos hit back again on 59 minutes when Isaacs completed his brace, heading home from a King cross.

And they took the points three minutes from time when Tyren Arendse finished after more good work again from King to deliver a hammer-blow to Golden Arrows’ top eight hopes.
