GOLDEN ARROWS 2
0 AJAX CAPE TOWN
Competition: Absa Premiership
Date: Sunday, 16 December 2012
Venue: King Zwelethini Stadium
Kick-off: 15:30pm
Lamontville Golden Arrows have secured a 2-0 victory over Ajax Cape Town in their Absa Premiership clash at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Ntlantla Zothwane and Bongi Ntuli got the goals in what was a deserved victory for Abafana Bes’thende, a win that moves them up to 11th in the table.
Bradley Grobler had three opportunities to put Ajax in front early on, first denied by Pavels Steinbors, who beat away his powerful header. He then put another header wide, and finally dallied on the ball too long and lost a shooting opportunity inside the Arrows box.
Khama Billiat also fired over when well-placed as the visitors had the better openings in the first half-hour.
Abafana Bes’thende had offered little going forward, but an incisive piece of attacking play had them in front on 35 minutes.
Mzuvukile Tom provided the cross from the left and Zothwane stole in between a static Ajax defence to head past Sean Roberts.
Musa Bilankulu had the first chance of the second period, heading wide, while Toriq Losper forced an excellent save from Steinbors at the other end.
Koen van der Laak had two chances soon after coming on as a substitute for Ajax, first shooting over and then striking the base of the post.
Losper was again denied by the excellent Steinbors when the Latvian goalkeeper tipped over his header as Ajax continued to push forward in search of an equaliser.
The home side had chances of their own, Ntuli poked his effort wide of goal, while Dillon Sheppard saw his free-kick crash into the Ajax crossbar.
Musa Lebuso put his volley over the bar at the back post when he really should have hit the target, and Golden Arrows made the points safe in the dying seconds of the game.
Ntuli turned Aiden Jenniker expertly in the box and his shot was thrashed past the despairing dive of Roberts.
Both of these sides will now close their 2012 programme on Wednesday evening, with Golden Arrows hosting Orlando Pirates at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, and Ajax away at SuperSport United.
