Lamontville Golden Arrows have earned an excellent away point with a 1-1 draw against Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Stadium on Tuesday night.

It was an entertaining Absa Premiership clash in which both sides had opportunities to take all three points.

Thamsanqa Gabuza gave Arrows the lead before halftime, but the Brazilians equalised through a Mzivukile Tom own goal just minutes later.

It was a lively start to the game from both sides, the dangerous Langerman fired in a superb cross that was missed by both Teko Modise and Katlego Mphela.

The latter then headed wide from a Modise free-kick when he really should have hit the target as the home side began to press.

Arrows were unlucky when Gabuza had a goal ruled out just past the half-hour mark for offside.

Modise had an excellent chance to open the scoring when he took his time to finish and Nkosi Gumede was able to make the save.

But Abafana Bes’thende did have the lead when Sibusiso Hadebe set up Gabuza to score on 38 minutes.

But the lead lasted just over four minutes as Sundowns hit back before the break, Tom turning the ball into his own net.

Mphela had another headed effort go wide that should have seen him give his side the lead, while Manqele saw his shot come off the inside of the post late on with Gumede beaten, but the ball cannoned away to safety.

It was end-to-end action in the final few minutes and Gabuza had a great chance to win it for Arrows, but flashed his shot across goal and wide.

Next up for Arrows is a Nedbank Cup clash away at Gauteng SAFA Second Division side Vardos FC on Saturday night at the Makhulong Stadium.
