GOLDEN ARROWS 0
1 UNI OF PRETORIA
Competition: PSL
Date: Wednesday, 22 August 2012
Venue: Sugar Ray Stadium, Cleremont
Kick-off: 18:00pm
Lamontville Golden Arrows have been beaten 1-0 by newly-promoted University of Pretoria in their Absa Premiership clash at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Wednesday night.
A lone goal from Mpho Maruping eight minutes before the break was enough for AmaTuks to go home with the points.
Golden Arrows had their chances in the game, but could not convert and are still without a point after their opening two matches of the season.
Abafana Bes’thende coach Muhsin Ertugral handed new signing from Free State Stars, striker Boitumelo Sekgobela, a first start alongside Stanton Lewis in attack. Otherwise, the line-up was largely the same as the one that did duty against Orlando Pirates in the season opener.
The first real chance of the game fell to Philani Shange, whose goal-gound effort was deflected wide. The first quarter of the game saw a number of meaty challenges, the pitch slickened by the rain in Durban and not helping the players with their footwork.
Veteran Botswana international Dipsy Selolwane shot wide for AmaTuks, before the visitors did find the opener.
Right-back Ramahlwe Mphahlele swung in a cross and Maruping rose highest to head home past Pāvels Šteinbors in the Golden Arrows goal.
Dumisani Ngwenya flashed a shot wide for AmaTuks, before Dillon Sheppard had a free-kick chance that was saved by visiting keeper Washington Arubi.
Try as they might, the home side could not force an equaliser and they now look forward to their next league encounter at Durban rivals AmaZulu on September 1.
