Lamontville Golden Arrows have been beaten 2-1 by BidVest Wits in an Absa Premiership clash at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Abafana Bes’thende will feel they were unlucky in the game after coming from behind to look as though they would earn a point, before Papy Faty found a later winner for the visitors.

Sibusiso Vilakazi had put wits ahead just after halftime, but Lucky Nguzana found a magnificent equaliser for the hosts.

Bongi Ntuli was lively early on and he forced visiting goalkeeper Jackson Mabokgwane into a fine low save.

It was all Arrows in the first quarter and Mzuvukile Tom’s cross found Musa Bilankulu, but he rushed his shot and it went wide.

Wits began to slowly come into the game after that and forced a magnificent save from home goalkeeper Nkosinathi Gumede, who tipped over Ryan Chapman’s header from a Asive Langwe cross.

Ntuli created space for himself on the right, but he could not hit the target with his shot.

Vilakazi then had an effort that should have served as a warning for Abafana Bes’thende. He was picked out by Matthew Pattison in acres of space, but put his effort wide.

That was a minute before halftime and just a minute after the break Wits did have the lead. This time he was set up by Langwe and made no mistake with a fine chip over the on-rushing Gumede.

Bilankulu again found himself in a shooting position, but this time found the side-netting as Arrows pushed forward in search of an equaliser.

Substitute Nguzana was the next to have an effort on goal, but his shot was wayward too.

Arrows did finally find their equaliser and it was a cracking goal too. Nguzana smashed the ball home from the edge of the area with an excellent finish.

But home hearts were broken when Faty beat the offside trap and beat Gumede with a low shot to seal the points for Wits. Arrows will be back in action in midweek, travelling to Cape Town to face Chippa United on Wednesday.
