BIDVEST WITS 1
0 GOLDEN ARROWS
Competition: PSL
Date: Saturday 06 October 2012
Venue: Bidvest Stadium
Kick-off: 15:30pm
Lamontville Golden Arrows have suffered a 1-0 defeat against BidVest Wits at the Bidvest Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The home side finished the game with 10 men when Ebrahim Seedat was sent-off in the second period, but still managed to win the game thanks to a lone strike from Matthew Pattison early in the first half.
Abafana Bes’thende coach Muhsin Ertugral opted to have Bongi Ntuli up front, leaving Stanton Lewis and Norman Smith on the bench.
After a slow opening to the game, the home side were ahead on 15 minutes as Pattison applied a cool finish. Calvin Kadi chased down what looked like a lost cause and kept the ball in play, before teeing up Pattison for the finish.
Nkosinathi Ogle came close to levelling matters midway through the first half when his shot from outside the area flashed just wide.
The blistering heat meant the sides had a water-break and afterwards Kadi had an effort that went wide as well.
Ntuli had an effort on the stroke of halftime that drifted wide and the teams went into the break with the home side in front.
Ertugral withdrew Dillon Sheppard at halftime, replaced by Loyiso Mapolisa, as he tried to change things up a bit for the second half.
Steven Hoffman in the home goal produced a wonderful point-blank save to deny Jabulani Nene with his header in what should really have been the equaliser.
South African junior international Seedat, who had earlier in the game been booked, fouled Siyanda Zwane and received his marching orders for a second bookable offence to leave Wits playing out the final 25 minutes with 10 men.
By this time Ertugral had already withdrawn Latvian defender Ritus Krjauklis and replaced him with Smith, who last time out netted against Free State Stars.
Ntuli almost found an equaliser in injury-time when his shot from inside the area was tipped over by the excellent Hoffman.
Golden Arrows will now wait until Monday night’s Telkom Knockout first round draw to see who their next fixture will be against after the international break, but their next Absa Premiership encounter is home to Chippa United on October 27.
