4 MAMELODI SUNDOWNS

Competition: Nedbank Cup
Date: Saturday ,22 March2014
Venue: King Zwelithini Stadium
Kick-off: 20:15pm

Lamontville Golden Arrows bowed out of the Nedbank Cup for this season with a 4-1 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns in their Last 16 clash at the King Zwelithini Stadium.
Abafana Bes’thende took the lead early on through Philani Shange, but Sundowns equalised before halftime via Dove Wome, and second half strikes from Lebogang Mokoena, Anthony Laffor and Percy Tau sealed the win for the visitors.
It means Golden Arrows have yet to record a cup win over Sundowns after five attempts, but they had their chances in an open and entertaining clash on Saturday night.
The home side started the brighter and had too good early opportunities – Chris Katongo put his shot wide and Manti Moholo could not convert a one-on-one opportunity.
But their pressure did pay off on 13 minutes when Siyanda Zwane showed good industry down the right-hand side and his cut-back was blasted home from just inside the box by Shange.
It might have been 2-0 when Katongo had an excellent headed opportunity from Deon Hotto’s cross, but he glanced it the wrong side of the post with just Wayne Sandilands to beat.
Just three minutes later and Sundowns were level, Wome broke into the box on the right and his low drive beat Nkosi Gumede at his near post.
Surprise Moriri almost put Sundowns ahead when his thunderous drive from the edge of the box cannoned back off the crossbar, but the visitors were in the lead just five minutes later.
Mokoena, who had not scored in two years after his battles with injury, crashed the ball home.
Sundowns went further in front just past the hour-mark as Laffor burst into the box and placed his shot past a helpless Gumede.
Katongo’s brilliant acrobatic strike at goal was beaten away by Sandilands, while at the other end Tau side-footed home on the volley from Modise’s cross.
Next up for Golden Arrows is a home meeting with BidVest Wits on March 29.
