FREE STATE STARS 1

1 GOLDEN ARROWS

Competition: PSL
Date: Wednesday, 26 September 2012
Venue: Charles Mopeli Stadium
Kick-off: 19:30pm

Lamontville Golden Arrows have been held to a 1-1 draw by Free State Stars in their Absa Premiership clash at the Charles Mopeli Stadium on Wednesday night.

The result is a positive one for Abafana Bes’thende, with not many sides coming to the Free State and going away with points.

Golden Arrows led through a Norman Smith goal just past the half-hour mark, but could not hold on for the win as Dove Wome scored with a wonderful strike for the hosts to earn them a point.
There was a lively start to the game with the teams trading shots early on, Nhlanhla Zothwane firing over for the visitors, while Pavels Steinbors made a comfortable save from Wome.

The opening half-hour largely belonged to the home side, but they were not able to convert their opportunities as the Abafana Bes’thende stood firm in defence.

And having weathered the storm, it was Muhsin Ertugral’s side who took the lead on 31 minutes, Smith getting his first goal since re-joining the club earlier this month after being set-up by Zothwane.

In fact, it was a first League goal for Smith in almost exactly five years, his last coming when he netted during his first spell at Golden Arrows in a 2-1 win over Orlando Pirates on September 22, 2007.

Noah Chivuta had two attempts on goal, the first flashing wide of the post while the second was blazed over the bar.

The excellent Steinbors again thwarted the Zambian international just before halftime to keep his side ahead going into the break.

Boitumelo Sekgobela replaced Smith 20 minutes into the second half as he came up against his former side, who he left to join Golden Arrows towards the end of last month.
Taonga Dondo was the next to test Steinbors but his effort was easily dealt with and it looked as though the visitors would hold on for all three points.

The home side did manage an equaliser six minutes from time though as Wome netted.
He picked up a pass from Soriola Gege and provided a thunderous finish that this time left Steinbors with no chance.

Golden Arrows now look forward to their home match with Black Leopards on Saturday at the King Zwelithini Stadium. Kick-off is at 18h00.
