The Diski team have beaten Maritzburg United in their MDC game in Umlazi this morning and gone 1 point ahead at the top of the log, with just one game left in the competition.

The game was exciting from the first whistle and both sides were looking to score form the offset. This made for a great game that saw them having 12 shots at goal in total in the first 40 minutes, but neither team were able to find the back of the net.

Abafana Bes’thende linked up well and made good use of their possession playing up. Khenyeza added some fire power up front and was fed well by supporting play by Sibiya, Mjoli and Sibeko, and had a number of shots but was just not able to get the ball on target.

Maritzburg fought back hard and had a number of opportunities where they looked dangerous. This continued into the second half, with Maritzburg coming back after the break and dominating for about 10 minutes. Arrows made a number of changes, bringing on Molefe, Sandile Dlamini and Quincy Ngcobo to increase the last 45 tempo and this eventually paid off when Khenyeza managed to push on in after finding himself in a one on one situation.

It’s a well-deserved win for the team and an important one as they head into the final game in two weeks time against Free State Stars.

The glory of the competition will ride on this game for them and they will need to stay composed at Nike Centre on the 27th of February to clinch the title.
