MAMELODI SUNDOWNS VS GOLDEN ARROWS | DISKI 2015/16

Lamontville Golden Arrows diski team have defeated Mamelodi Sundowns in their first Diski fixture this afternoon.

The game was an intense meeting at a very wet Makhulong Stadium this afternoon between the two sides with last season’s finalists being the favourites for the encounter.

Our boys came out confident from the first whistle, putting pressure on Sundowns as soon as the game started. This was evident when, after only 7 minutes of play, they managed to score the opening goal off the boot of Sibiya, who was ready in the strike zone and scored confidently to set the pace for the game.

This was a major confidence boost for the team, and the players showed confidence going forward. They closed down Sundowns players when they were looking dangerous, and would not allow their opponents to take advantage of the ball possession they had.

Hlongwane then scored the second goal for the team, after a fantastic cross from Sibeko found him in front of an open goal. He had no difficulty in slotting the ball for the second. This put Sundowns further on the back foot and their frustration increased. This was evident in their play, and at one stage the game became quite physical.

The team went into the change rooms at half time bursting with confidence and determined to improve on the score in the second half.

The second half was more balanced with regards to possession of the ball as well as the field advantages, with their being a minimal difference in the statistics. Sundowns returned to the field with the intention of clawing back some goals, and they managed to pull one back off Ngubane but their fate was already determined .

They had a number of opportunities to score, but luck was not on their sides, with one attempt at an open goals hitting the cross bar, and another the uprights. Sibeko was the third to score for Lamontville Golden Arrows, and it was a deserved one after having a great performance on field and after his assist with Hlongwanes goal in the first half.

The next fixture will be on the 13th of September against Black Aces.
