We dominated play in the first half and took the ball up field on a number of occasions, putting pressure on the Gallants defenders. We missed an opportunity to go ahead in the fifth minute as Magubane dragged a shot wide of target and not long after Mutizwa had a header attempt that Arubi managed to get a glove on, but not clear. Nonyani defending then headered the ball to clear the line.
We kept pressure on the visitors and had two goals disallowed for offsides. Marumo had a couple of chances but some good defending at the back denied them the opportunity and we went into the break with no score on the board
The second half saw all the goals being scored. We opened with a penalty in the 51st minute for a hand ball, converted by Sibisi. Doing well to retain possession and a great assist from Khumalo, Mutizwa was then able to extend the lead in the 65th.
We had a lapse in concentration though, and endured a passage of heavy attacking play from the visitors. This caught us off guard and with just 15 minutes to go conceded an own goal.
This gave Marumo Gallants some encouragement and they could see a draw on the cards. They fought hard to turn the game over but were just not able to.
In the first minute of additional time, Khumalo was then rewarded with his first goal of the season and in scoring, secured the win at home for us.
We have a break until the 20th of October when we return to Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium to take on Mamelodi Sundowns.
