An early first half goal, and a questionable penalty decision in the second half cost us the game against Highlands Park this afternoon.
We played some good attacking football this afternoon with Sibeko standing out on the field, looking for opportunities to push up into the box and supplying Mutizwa, as well as having some shots at goal. But nothing we could deliver, could break the confidence that The Lions of the NOrth had achieved after Rae opened their scoring in the 7th minute.
The home side put all they had into defending their early lead, taking fewer opportunities to counter and push up than what was expected.
Defending their lead through the break, they returned to the field and were awarded a questionable penalty after Shalulile was judged to have been fouled in the box.
He converted, and Highlands Park went into a strong defensive pattern of play, defending their goal with all they could throw at it.
We were unable to create the number of opportunities we would have liked, and when we did break the defence, we were unfortunate to put our attempts just wide or finding the post.
The team will take a very short festive break before returning to prepare for our first game of 2020 against Maritzburg United at Harry Gwala Stadium on the 3rd of January.
